Take the Xi'an Simo Z4 series DC motor Z4-280-11B as an example. "Z" represents a DC motor, "4" represents the 4 series, "280" represents the center height of the motor (mm), the first "1" represents the serial number of the core length, the second "1" represents the serial number of the front end cover, "1" indicates a short end cover, "2" indicates a long end cover, and "B" indicates the presence of a compensating winding.
Note: For the Z4-112/2-1 model, the first digit after the "/" represents the number of poles, and the second digit represents the serial number of the core length.
The Z4 series DC motors: those with a center height of 100 to 355mm are standard series small DC motors specified in the mechanical industry standard of the People's Republic of China JB/T6316-92 "Technical Conditions for Z4 Series DC Motors"; those with a center height of 400 to 450mm are extended Z4 DC motors outside the standard series; those with a center height of 500 to 710mm are newly developed medium-sized DC motors by our factory. The Taifu Simo Z4 series DC motors can be widely applied in various industrial sectors such as metallurgical industry rolling mills, metal cutting machine tools, papermaking, dyeing and weaving, printing, cement, plastic extrusion machinery, etc.
The Z4 series DC motors have greater advantages compared to the Z2 and Z3 series. They can not only be powered by a DC generator set but are more suitable for being powered by a static rectifier power supply. Moreover, they have a small moment of inertia, good dynamic performance, and can withstand a high load change rate. They are particularly suitable for control systems that require smooth speed regulation, high efficiency, automatic speed stabilization, and sensitive response, and are of advanced international standards.
The rating of the motor is a continuous rating for continuous operation. In areas where the altitude does not exceed 1000m and the ambient air temperature does not exceed 40°C, the motor can operate at the rated values in the technical data sheet. The Simo motors of this series adopt Class F insulation.
The power range of the Xi'an Simo Z4 series DC motors is from 1.5kW to 840kW. The rated speeds are 3000, 1500, 1000, 750, 600, 500, 400, 300, and 200r/min, a total of nine types. The excitation method is separately excited, and the excitation voltage is 180V. In addition to the above-specified levels, according to specific situations and user needs, other power, armature voltage, speed, and excitation voltage values can be derived.
For motors with a rated voltage of 160V, when powered by a single-phase bridge rectifier, they generally need to work with a reactor. The inductance value of the external reactor is indicated on the motor nameplate. For motors with a rated voltage of 440V, no external reactor is required.
The performance of this series of motors not only complies with the national standard GB/T755 "Basic Technical Requirements for Rotating Electrical Machines" but also basically conforms to the German VDE0530 standard.
(1) Basic Structure
The Z4 series DC motors adopt an octagonal fully laminated structure, which not only has a high space utilization rate but also can withstand pulsating current and rapid changes in load current when powered by a static rectifier.
The Z4 series DC motors generally do not have a series excitation winding and are suitable for automatic control technologies that require forward and reverse rotation. According to user needs, they can also be made with a series excitation winding. Motors with a center height of 100 to 280mm have no compensating winding, but motors with a center height of 250mm and 280mm can be made with a compensating winding according to specific situations and needs. Motors with a center height of 315 to 450mm are equipped with a compensating winding.
The external installation dimensions and technical requirements of motors with a center height of 500 to 710mm comply with IEC international standards, and the mechanical dimension tolerances of the motors comply with ISO international standards.
(2) Cooling Methods, Structures, and Installation Types
- IC06: External ventilation with a built-in blower;
- ICl7: The cooling air inlet is a pipeline, and the outlet is a louver for exhaust;
- IC37: Both the cooling air inlet and outlet are pipelines;
- IC611: Fully enclosed with an air/air cooler;
- ICW37A86: Fully enclosed with an air/water cooler.
There are also many derived forms, such as self-ventilation type, with an axial fan type, enclosed type, air/air cooler type, etc. The data such as the required cooling air volume, air pressure, and the power of the fan motor for each frame number of the motor are shown in Table 1. The basic protection level of the housing of the entire series of motors is IP21S.

The installation type of the Simo motors of the Z4 series complies with the provisions of GB/T997 "Motor Structure and Installation Type and Code". Except for the axial distance of the foot holes (B dimension), the other installation dimensions of the motors comply with IEC standards.
The position of the motor terminal box is on the right side of the frame when viewed from the drive end (non-commutator end) (i.e., the normal box position). If the user requires the terminal box to be placed on the other side of the frame, indicate the "reverse box" when placing the order. The basic shaft extension of the motor is a single shaft extension, and the shaft extension direction is to the left when facing the terminal box (normal box position). If the user needs, it can also be made into a double shaft extension. The basic rotation direction of the shaft is counterclockwise when viewed from the commutator end. The drive method of the motor is coupling connection with an elastic coupling, and it can also be used for drive methods with a certain radial force (belt or gear drive).
According to user needs, the motor can be designed to be equipped with a tachogenerator, a pulse generator, a centrifugal switch, a brake, etc. Specific requirements can be negotiated with our factory.

Try to select the standard specification products listed in the catalog. Please indicate the motor model, power, voltage, rotation speed, excitation method, excitation voltage, and structural installation form in the order contract, such as Z4-180-31 37kW 400V 1000r/min separately excited 180V, horizontal with feet or IMB3.
- When there are special requirements for the product, such as double shaft extension, the terminal box position being the reverse box, the reverse rotation of the shaft, etc., they must be clearly indicated in the contract.
- If the required variety and specification are beyond those listed in this catalog, or there are other special requirements, a contract or a trial production agreement should be signed after mutual negotiation and agreement.
- Except for the shaft extension key of the motor, all accessories of various products of Xi'an Simo Motor are not within the supply scope. If users need accessories or spare parts, such as carbon brushes, brush holders, etc., please indicate the names, specifications, and quantities of the required accessories or spare parts in the contract in advance.
